Kiln Forming
Kiln-formed glass is that which is altered, fused, shaped, or textured by the extreme heat of a kiln.
- Fusing
- Glass forms are produced by placing different pieces of glass in contact with each other in an arranged design, then firing them in a kiln at a temperature high enough to fuse them into one piece of glass.
- Slumping
- Glass which has been heated in a kiln to a temperature high enough to cause it to soften and slump into or over a mold. The finished item takes the shape of the mold.
- Kiln Casting
- Glass is assembled into a pre-shaped mold and then fired in a kiln to a temperature high enough to cause it to melt into a solid mass.
Sandcarving (Sandblasting)
A technique using an abrasive material that cuts into the glass surface, producing a design or pattern.
